Corporate Profile

Bowchung was established in 1995 and has been growing steadily ever since. We are a small organisation specialising in the provision of anthropological services, social research,  evaluation and delivering community development programs. We limit ourselves to our area of expertise, and, run a small number of projects at any one time. Every project undertaken by Bowchung has hands on fieldwork ,supervision and analysis from one or both Directors.

Bowchung maintains a wide network of Indigenous and non Indigenous consultants with extensive experience in service delivery in the Indigenous sphere. We choose to work with people with service delivery experience because they know how hard it is to achieve outcomes in the remote and rural  settings. We select people in whom this knowledge informs a sensitive, non-judgmental approach. Bowchung also has access to quantitative data, business and policy analysts, and good links with academics at several universities.

Many people in Bowchung’s network of consultants have strong relationships with Indigenous and non Indigenous people throughout the Central Australian and Top End regions. We have access to fluent speakers of Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara, Arrente, Luritja and Warlpiri and are able to source others as needed.

We frequently work for, and with all levels of government, and have strong relationships with key non government organisations.

Bowchung is totally committed to ethical conduct. We pride ourselves in ensuring that community organisations and individual residents give their informed consent before we conduct any research, and we are committed to giving every community the results of the work we do with them. We take care to generate plain language reports so that findings and recommendations are as widely disseminated and understood as possible.

Bowchung also has a program of giving back to the communities where we work most often. We provide financial support to the Young Mining Leaders program in the Ngaanyatjarra of Western Australia, and pro bono work across Central Australia.
